Sparo - The Greek word for Sower of seed. We see everyone as having untapped potential, and we seek to assist in that seed, producing a bountiful harvest.

Sparo, LLC is a counseling and consulting practice based in Prince George's County, Maryland. With various service offerings such as individual therapy and program evaluation/assessment, the practice is skilled to support and attend to relational traumas that impede progress for individuals and support mission alignment for organizations. Through the utilization of a unique blend of academic knowledge, psychological support, and crisis management, Sparo seeks to bridge the gap to your authentic self.

James and Aleata Dawkins have over twenty years of experience providing counseling and consultation for individuals, groups, and organizations. Specializing in marriage, individual, and spiritual counseling, both hold Master's Degrees in Professional Counseling and other degrees and certifications. 

Dr. Aleata G. Dawkins, LPC/LCPC, NCC

With over twenty years of dedicated experience, Aleata specializes in guiding individuals, couples, and families through life's challenges and transitions. Her expertise is primarily focused on crisis management, where she passionately supports clients in unlocking their potential beyond current stressors. Aleata is committed to walking alongside her clients as they discover resilience, strength, and growth.

A proud graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and the American School of Professional Psychology (ASPP)/Argosy University, Aleata holds a master’s degree in Professional Counseling. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Maryland and the District of Columbia.  Her training includes specialized certifications in domestic violence, trauma-informed care, and non-violent crisis intervention, with a particular focus on serving underserved communities.

Recognizing a growing need, Aleata has also dedicated the past three years to helping professionals enhance their leadership skills and navigate work-related stressors, fostering healthier work-life balances.

In addition to her clinical practice, Aleata brings extensive leadership experience in the homeless services sector. She previously led programming at one of the largest non-profit organizations in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Her breadth of knowledge, compassion, and strength-based approach enriches her work as a counselor, coach, and community leader. Throughout her career, she has served as Director of Programs, Counselor, Coordinator, and Non-Profit Trainer for several prominent organizations in Washington, D.C.

Aleata holds numerous certifications and has a doctoral degree in Strategic Leadership with an emphasis on leadership coaching. Her dual calling is rooted in serving and motivating others to reach their fullest potential while fostering accountability for their choices, both positive and negative.

In her free time, Aleata leverages her experience to support adolescent girls' development, strengthen marriages, and improve black maternal health through initiatives addressing infant loss. She believes the greatest reward in human services is witnessing the resilience of the human spirit as it survives, transforms, and flourishes into its best self.​

James H. Dawkins, Jr, MA, M.Div 

James is a seasoned engineer with 25 years of diverse experience in systems engineering, integration, software development, and project management. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with government contract liaisons, providing expert guidance and strategic insights. His background includes roles such as project manager, Scrum master, agile coach, and various leadership support positions, equipping him with a unique skill set to effectively coach businesses through hiring processes, bidding strategies, and organizational growth.

Beyond his technical expertise, James is an ordained minister passionate about spiritual and relationship-based coaching. He offers mentorship from an African American male perspective, emphasizing the importance of navigating the societal and unspoken pressures faced by men today. His commitment to making a positive impact extends to volunteering, where he has ministered to those incarcerated in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

Together with his wife of over 20 years, James also provides couples and marriage counseling, blending his professional experience with personal insight to foster healthier relationships.

Believing that education is the foundation of practical support, James holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling, and a Master of Divinity from Liberty University. His diverse educational background fuels his dedication to empowering individuals and organizations alike.
